Responsibilities:
- Supervise and train other junior CLS or MLT in relevant and proper histology procedures, including specimen receiving and accessioning, tissue grossing, tissue processing, embedding, cutting (microtomy), and staining.
- Prepare and label slides or specimens, using special cutting and specified stains, to enhance visibility under the microscope as required.
- Perform microscope-based quality assessments of stained and unstained tissue sections for subsequent diagnostic review.
- Participate in the development and execution of laboratory protocol, as appropriate to the objectives of the position.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot advanced electronic histological equipment including electronic instruments; oversee and ensure maintenance of quality, safety, and infection control standards of laboratory activities.
- Be involved in any accreditations, certifications, and any other evaluation programs the company decides to participate in; oversee and ensure protocols or procedures are made available and reviewed as required, records are maintained, controlled, reviewed, and kept well for traceability purposes. Participate in internal & external audits.
- Perform computerized data entry of all work performed and generate reports as required.
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field particularly Biomedical Sciences with at least 4 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to process computer data and format and generate reports.
- Ability to prepare slides and/or specimens for microscopy using established protocols and techniques.
- Ability to utilize, troubleshoot, and maintain computerized laboratory and/or histological equipment.
- Ability to develop and maintain housekeeping, safety, and infection control programs, procedures, and protocols.
- Knowledge of rapid tissue processing and horizontal and frozen section techniques.
- Knowledge of the principles and procedures of laboratory procedures.
